The Republic of Honduras is a country located in the center-north of Central America. To the north and east of Honduras is the Caribbean Sea, and it shares borders on the southeast with Nicaragua, on the south with the Gulf of Fonseca and El Salvador and, on the west with Guatemala. Honduras is divided into 18 departments which, in turn, are split into 298 municipalities. The population mainly works in agriculture, trade, manufactures, finance and services. The country’s topography is very rugged, with high mountains, plateaus and deep valleys which host a wealth of biodiversity. Honduras still preserves some of the best archeological remains of the Maya culture and good examples of advanced hydraulic engineering in its settlements.
